State Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, issued the following statement on the budget agreement between the Legislature and Gov. Newsom, which was approved today by the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, for which she is chair:
California state Sens. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, and Steven Bradford, D-Gardena, applauded today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision against the NCAA in the case, ‘National Collegiate Athletic Association v. Alston.” The court ruled that the NCAA must abide by anti-monopoly laws and does not have blanket authority to deny the rights of college athletes when it comes to compensation.
The California state Senate today voted 31-3 to approve SB 16 by Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, which builds on her successful 2018 law that opened public access to a limited set of police records for the first time in over 40 years. SB 16, which garnered bipartisan support, would further expand the categories of police records publicly available and strengthen law enforcement accountability.
The California state Senate today unanimously approved SB 26, to move up the implementation date of SB 206, the Fair Pay to Play Act, to no later than Jan. 1, 2022. The California state Senate voted unanimously, 38-0, today to approve Sen. Nancy Skinner’s SB 354, which would expand opportunities in the foster care system for children to be housed with relatives and non-relative extended family member caregivers, provided that the child is not endangered.
