Sacramento, CA — Today, the California Legislature passed Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) SB 1200, “Strengthening California’s Gun Violence Restraining Order.” SB 1200 would enhance California’s existing Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO), a law Skinner authored when she was in the Assembly. SB 1200 is now on its way to Governor Brown’s desk for his signature.

Sacramento, CA — Today, State Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) SB 1164, the “Craft Distiller Op-pour-tunity” Act, passed the State Legislature with bipartisan support. SB 1164 would modify existing regulations to give California’s small batch craft distillers more leeway to produce and sell their products.




Sacramento, CA — With bipartisan support, the California Legislature passed Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) SB 1138, “Ensuring a Plant Based Meal Option,” which would require hospitals, healthcare facilities and prisons to offer “plant-based” meals to people in these institutions.




Sacramento, CA - Today, State Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) SB 1085, passed the State Legislature. SB 1085 ensures that officers and stewards of public employee unions are allowed take leaves of absence to perform their duties. SB 1085 now goes to Governor Brown for his signature.




Sacramento, CA - Today, the California Legislature passed Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) Senate Bill 1227, aimed at making it easier to build much needed student housing. Dubbed “Housing Our Students,” SB 1227 would change state housing law to enable a builder of student housing to benefit from California’s density bonus law and comply with local inclusionary housing policies. Skinner’s bill now goes to Governor Brown for his signature.




Yesterday the California Legislature passed Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) SB 926, the “Workplace Protection Act,” which would protect participants in CalWORKs and CalFresh programs from losing benefits if they leave a job due to violations of their workplace rights. Skinner’s bill now awaits Governor Brown’s signature.




Sacramento, CA — At a morning press conference on the west steps of the State Capitol, Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) and Senator Joel Anderson (R-El Cajon) were joined by Re:store Justice; the NAACP; and others in support of SB 1437, which would reform California’s felony murder rule. SB 1437 passed out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee last week and now awaits a vote on the Assembly Floor.
