Senator Skinner Applauds 2023 State Budget Agreement

California state Senator Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, chair of the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, issued the following statement today, praising the three-party budget deal reached with Governor Newsom and the state Assembly:

“This year’s budget is a smart and thoughtful response to challenging economic times that protects the progress California has made to build a more equitable economy. It also maintains the state’s rainy day reserves to provide future protection against economic uncertainty. I’m particularly proud the budget increases funding for childcare that so many Californians depend on, to our schools and higher ed, and to the state’s response to the climate crisis, while also extending a lifeline to transit systems facing severe budget shortfalls. I want to thank Governor Newsom and his administration, Senate President Pro Tem Atkins, members of the Senate Budget Committee, and Pro Tem staff, as well as the Assembly Leadership and Budget Committee, and all of their staff, for their collaboration and outstanding work on this budget.”

Sen. Nancy Skinner represents the 9th Senate District and is chair of the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee and the California Legislative Women’s Caucus.
