AVAILABLE NOW: Local Food & Community Services
Greetings!
As you likely know, millions of Californians receiving benefits from State programs have been impacted by the federal government shut down. Currently, the State is expected to be able to fund the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, known as CalWORKS, in November 2025.
For the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), known as CalFresh in California, a court ordered the Trump administration to immediately issue 100% of funding for all 5.5 million people who receive CalFresh. Consistent with the court order, California and multiple other states took steps to enable full SNAP benefits to be provided to individuals and families in need. Updates and more information will be available soon, and additional information can also be found the Frequently Asked Questions page on California Department of Social Services website.
If you are in immediate need of food assistance, or other community services, the California Association of Food Banks advises to call 2-1-1 to speak with someone about services available. Lines are open 24 hours a day.
Contra Costa residents can find food resources at Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano on their website or by calling (855) 309-3663. Additionally, Alameda County residents can find food resources at Alameda County Community Food Bank on their website or by calling (510) 635-3663.
