Dear Constituent,
This Saturday you and your local mail delivery person can join together to help fight hunger. Saturday, May 14 is the 30th annual "Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive" sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers of the U.S. Postal Service.
It's easy to participate. Just put a bag of nonperishable food (such as peanut butter, dried beans and rice, pasta, canned fruits and vegetables) next to your mailbox before your mail is delivered. Your mail carrier will collect the food donations as they deliver mail, and then distribute them to local food banks, pantries, and shelters.
Saturday's event is the largest one-day food drive in the country. Today, an estimated 1 in 6 California children are food insecure; your participation will help many families who rely on food donations.
Saturday's food drive is only for nonperishable foods, like canned goods, peanut butter and unopened packages of rice or pasta.
- Products should be in good condition: no damaged/major dents/ tears/rot or mold, etc.
- All items should be sealed and labeled with ingredients and not previously opened or thawed
Please do not include perishable food, such as bread, beverages, produce, meat or dairy.
In addition to putting that food by your mailbox this Saturday, you can also fight hunger by supporting our local food banks, the Alameda County Community Food Bank and the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. In Alameda County, please click here for a list of sites where you can drop off food donations. And for Contra Costa County, please click here and here. Also, if you or anyone you know is need of food, please also check out the links above for both food banks for more information.
Let's help Stamp Out Hunger.
Sincerely,
Nancy Skinner
