Dear Constituent,
Reminder: My office will host our sixth virtual Town Hall today, June 4, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Town Hall's panelists will participate via Zoom, and you will be able to watch the discussion on the homepage of my website. You also do not need to RSVP to watch.
The virtual Town Hall will acknowledge this moment that we are all witnessing, and many experiencing personally — the pain, anguish, and outrage at the senseless killing of George Floyd by the Minneapolis police. For many, Mr. Floyd's death put a spotlight on the implicit bias and systemic racism that pervades our communities and nation. For others, it triggers memories of personal experiences with, and feelings toward, police officers.
Leaders who will share their insights during this Town Hall include:
- Dr. Shirley Weber, Assemblymember, author of AB 392, which changed CA's police use of force rules
- Dr. Noha Aboelata, CEO of the Roots Community Health Center in Oakland
- Cephus Johnson, uncle of Oscar Grant, co-founder Love Not Blood Campaign
- John Jones, III of the Dellums Institute for Social Justice/ Just Cities
If you have issues or concerns that you would like our participants to address, please submit them in advance, and we will do our best to have them addressed during the Town Hall. Please submit your concerns by clicking here by noon, Thursday, June 4.
Reminder, that unlike our past virtual Town Halls, there is no need to RSVP to watch. Just go to my state senate homepage (https://sd09.senate.ca.gov/) at 5 p.m. today.
Sincerely,
Nancy Skinner
