Dear San Leandro and Alameda Residents,
SB 1, California's recently passed gas tax, is being put to work right now, funding needed road and transit improvements throughout the East Bay.
Revenues from SB 1 are being invested directly into infrastructure like the projects listed below. With the new transportation improvement and construction projects happening all over California, SB 1 investments are estimated to generate some 68,000 good paying jobs.
Here are some of the SB 1 funded projects in San Leandro and Alameda:
- New BART cars: funding to purchase 272 new cars will increase BART capacity by 52,000 more riders per day
- New hybrid-electric, zero-emission buses for AC Transit
- Improvements to the I-238 connector bridges between I-880 and I-580
- Direct funding to San Leandro and Alameda for local road repair and repaving
- Renovations of Estabrook St. from Washington Ave to East 14th Street
- Upgrades to Route 61, 5.6 lane miles from Broadway/Encinal to Sherman St.
- East Bay Greenway Pedestrian/Bike Path -16 mile regional trail connecting 6 BART stations from Lake Merritt station to South Hayward

I'm proud and excited that California is actively improving the transportation infrastructure all of us depend on. If you have questions about any of these projects, feel free to contact my office at 510.286.1333. It is an honor to represent you in the California State Senate.
Sincerely,
Nancy Skinner
