Sacramento, CA - Today, the California Legislature passed Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) Senate Bill 1227, aimed at making it easier to build much needed student housing. Dubbed “Housing Our Students,” SB 1227 would change state housing law to enable a builder of student housing to benefit from California’s density bonus law and comply with local inclusionary housing policies. Skinner’s bill now goes to Governor Brown for his signature.

Yesterday the California Legislature passed Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) SB 926, the “Workplace Protection Act,” which would protect participants in CalWORKs and CalFresh programs from losing benefits if they leave a job due to violations of their workplace rights. Skinner’s bill now awaits Governor Brown’s signature.

Sacramento, CA — At a morning press conference on the west steps of the State Capitol, Senator Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) and Senator Joel Anderson (R-El Cajon) were joined by Re:store Justice; the NAACP; and others in support of SB 1437, which would reform California’s felony murder rule. SB 1437 passed out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee last week and now awaits a vote on the Assembly Floor.

Today the California State Senate approved Senator Nancy Skinner’s (D-Berkeley) E-CAr legislation, SB 1014. E-CAr, which stands for Electrify California Ride-hailing, would accelerate the uptake of electric vehicles and other zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) deployed by ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft. Skinner’s legislation would set zero-emission targets for passenger or vehicle miles traveled as a result of rides arranged through Transportation Network Companies (TNCs).

The legislation, SB 1008, ensures that dental insurance providers are subject to similar disclosure requirements as health insurance. SB 1008 is now on its way to the Assembly.
