Telephone Town Hall About the Shelter in Place Health Order

Friends,

On Thursday evening, March 19, 2020, I hosted a telephone Town Hall with Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson about the Shelter in Place Health Order in response to coronavirus/COVID19. The goal of this telephone Town Hall was to allow our Alameda County and Contra Costa County public health experts to explain the Health Order and why it was called, and to provide some basic answers to questions our office has been receiving about this virus and the steps that have been taken to contain its spread.

You can listen to the town hall here:

Experts participating in the telephone Town Hall experts were: Dr. Erica Pan, Interim Health Director, Alameda County; Dr. Chris Farantino, Public Health Director, Contra Costa County; and Susan Shiu, Public Information Officer, Contra Costa County

These experts covered why our counties' have directed us to shelter in place, what the Shelter in Place Health Order means to our daily lives, what activities are allowed and not allowed, as well as other core directives contained in the Health Order. I also provided a brief overview on various relief that has been put into place, such as the stay on rental evictions and the elimination of the one week wait for unemployment benefits.

I hope you find this information helpful.

Sincerely,

Nancy Skinner, Senator, 9th District
