Dear Friends,
Walking in our communities, we can't help but notice the increasing numbers of homeless living on our streets. None of us feel good knowing that California's economy is booming but so many Californians are in distress.
That's why I'm proud to let you know that on Wednesday May 16th the State Senate released our budget proposal to direct $5 billion of California's unexpectedly high revenues to directly fund homeless and affordable housing.
This $5 billion budget proposal builds upon the housing bond that is on the ballot this November and additional funding that was approved last year.
Combined, California would invest roughly $11 billion in state funds to be distributed to communities up and down the state that can then be matched by private-sector, federal and local government funding to construct permanent affordable and homeless housing and improve homeless services.

I'm confident you agree that now is the time for bold and immediate action to alleviate our housing and homelessness crisis.
I welcome your feedback, and it is an honor to serve you in the Senate.
Sincerely,
Nancy Skinner
